  Slice \Slice\, n. [OE. slice, sclice, OF. esclice, from
     esclicier, esclichier, to break to pieces, of German origin;
     cf. OHG. sl[=i]zan to split, slit, tear, G. schleissen to

        of cheese; a slice of bread.
