  Between \Be*tween"\, prep. [OE. bytwene, bitweonen, AS.
     betwe['o]nan, betwe['o]num; prefix be- by + a form fr. AS.
     tw[=a] two, akin to Goth. tweihnai two apiece. See Twain,
     and cf. Atween, Betwixt.]
