     (r[-e]*f[~e]rd"); p. pr. & vb. n. Referring.] [F.
     r['e]f['e]rer, L. referre; pref. re- re- + ferre to bear. See
     Bear to carry.]
     1. To carry or send back. [Obs.] --Chaucer.
