  Pitch \Pitch\, v. t. [OE. picchen; akin to E. pick, pike.]
     1. To throw, generally with a definite aim or purpose; to
        cast; to hurl; to toss; as, to pitch quoits; to pitch hay;
        to pitch a ball.
