  Dormant \Dor"mant\, n. [See Dormant, a.] (Arch.)
     A large beam in the roof of a house upon which portions of
     the other timbers rest or `` sleep.'' --Arch. Pub. Soc. --
     Called also dormant tree, dorman tree, dormond, and
     dormer. --Halliwell.
